So how much does it really cost?

Honest, it is free.  The pub makes its money from the extra trade.  We do, however, expect that you will have enough guests to justify the booking

So how many guests do you expect?

It depends on the size of the pub and how much space you want.  For example, a small establishment would expect at least 50 people to attend with an average spend of at least £10 per head.  You could also  book just a part of a pub for a smaller number

What if we don't reach the target spend?

To cover the pub's overheads we would expect the minimum spend.  If this is not achieved you would be required personally to make up the spend by, for example, purchasing wine to consume off the premises.  The minimum spend will be agreed between you and the landlord before confirmation of the booking

What about a band or disco?

You can either hire your own or ask the pub to organise this

Can I charge for entry?

It's your pub (for the night at least)!

What about catering?

Again you can do your own catering, get in an outside caterer or get the pub to organise it.  Some pubs will allow you the use of the kitchen for a small extra charge

How long can we have the pub for?

Pubs have premises licences which dictate the hours during which alcohol may be served.  These hours are usually sufficient but you may get a temporary event licence to vary the hours.  See the landlord for the permissible hours

What about under-age guests?

Even though it is a private function under-age drinking is NOT allowed.  The responsibility lays with the Designated Premises Supervisor by law.  You will be asked to assist this person in upholding the law

What about security?

Security is ultimately the responsibility of the Landlord.  However, you will be expected to assist in the smooth running of your event.  It doesn't look good on you if WE have to evict a troublemaker!  Most pubs can also provide a licensed door supervisor if required

Great, what do I do next?
